The SAINTS Program was created to enrich the lives of children who have experienced the death of illness of a parent by creating friendships between these children and college mentors through a mixture of social and academic activities both in large and small group settings. The SAINTS Program will meet the needs of children, 3rd grade through high school; in the community who have experienced the death or illness of a parent.Students of AMF's Saints Program will be a service offered to the community in partnership with many community organizations. These grieving children will be identified through existing community organizations and then grouped with college students in the Students of AMF service groups. The SAINTS Program will work mainly with Project Compassion, a non-profit organization in the Chapel Hill area. Through Project Compassion, the Saints Program will work with many hospice organizations, local hospitals, local grief and bereavement organizations, the Chapel Hill/ Carrboro Schools' counseling program, local churches and other spirit-based groups. After receiving mentor training, the college mentors will form small mentoring groups; through these groups they will provide meaningful friendships to grieving children in the community through monthly meetings.
