First-ever National Conference on College Student Grief to be hosted by National Students of AMF in Raleigh August 22-23, 2008

February 29, 2008

The Inaugural National Conference on College Student Grief will be held in Raleigh, NC on August 22-23, 2008 at Meredith College.  The mission of the conference is to provide a national forum for student leaders, bereaved college students, the college mental health community, college administrators and other interested parties to discuss current issues and future directions in college student bereavement. This Conference will take place during an energizing and inspiring weekend that includes educational seminars, networking opportunities, grief support workshops, and the Boot Camp 2 Beat Cancer.

The conference will begin at 3pm on Friday, August 22 with presentations, seminars, and forums focused on the “problems” with college students face when coping with illness or death. Following dinner that evening, David Balk, the leading expert in the field of college student bereavement, will offer the keynote address. On August 23, conference attendees will participate in, or volunteer for, the Boot Camp 2 Beat Cancer. At 2pm, sessions will reconvene as we build upon Friday’s discussions and talk about “solutions” for the problem of college student grief.

Sessions and workshops will be led by leaders in the college student mental health community and college student bereavement field. Student scholarships will be available to pay for travel, conference registration, and hotel accommodations.

This conference will offer a great opportunity to learn about a very important issue and ways that you can make a difference in the lives of grieving college students in your community.
