Carolyn with her sister, Lizzie

Carolyn, class of 2010
University of Pennsylvania

I am so happy that I found AMF.  After my sister passed away the summer before my senior year, I had a lot of difficulty coming back to school. It was hard to feel comfortable in an environment where people either didn’t know about my sister’s death or didn’t know how to talk to me about it.  Being able to go to AMF meetings and open up to other college students who were also struggling with similar tragedies, was incredibly comforting.  Even though AMF meetings were only once every two weeks, I found incredible strength in sharing my grief with others. And that feeling helped me get through the semester. The students I met helped me adjust to school and made me feel that I am not alone in my struggles.  It was so nice to build friendships with such a kind, honest, and giving group of people.
